We enjoyed this view from the tip of the peninsula at Burghead. The present town was built between 1805 and 1809, destroying in the process more than half of the site of an important Pictish fort. The Picts were a tribal confederation of peoples who lived in eastern and northern Scotland during the Late Iron Age and early Medieval periods. They have ethnic and lingusitic similarities with Celtish peoples. In the 10th century they are thought to have merged with the Gaels, becoming 'Scots'.
Each year on 11 January (the 'old' New Year's Day of the Julian calendar) a fire festival known as the Burning of the Clavie takes place; the origins of this are unknown, but could well date from Pictish times.
We noticed that Burnet moths were out and about on the head land.
We drove on to Findhorn and admired the beach.
Next we had a look at The Findhorn Foundation. My friends's simple question 'Who owns it?' remains unanswered.
I loved the eco houses which remind me of Denmark
